We're sorry if you've suffered an accident or have a claim on your insurance policy. That's why you have insurance, to protect you when something bad happens. We'll guide you on every step along the way.
Should you file this claim?
If there's a slight chance that someone may have been injured or suffered property damage in an accident, then we strongly suggest you file the claim. Otherwise, if you choose not to file it or wait to see what happens, the insurance company has the right to deny your claim for late reporting. The reason is because the insurance company is also your defense, so the claim representatives will want to start investigating as soon as possible. Over time, memories fade, perspectives change, evidence changes or damage gets worse- all possibly hindering a defense or exacerbating damage - so timely reporting is essential.
There are, however, situations where it may make sense not to file a claim. Keeping your insurance record clean will probably keep your rates down. If there was no any injury or property damage to any other party, you may want to get an estimate of damage and then look at your deductible to consider whether you should file a claim. Keep in mind however, that not all damage can be seen on an initial estimate - so again, to err on the side of caution, we would typically recommend filing the claim in a timely manner.
As your independent agent, we'll do our best to make your claim experience a smooth one.
